Without a Car in the World: Angelinos Tell Stories of Transportation Alternatives

Loyola Marymount University
Los Angeles
Project Director: Diane Meyer

Living in Los Angeles without a car

Project Director Diane Meyer will interview and photograph a wide cross-section of Los Angeles residents who lead happy, useful and productive lives without a car. The project will culminate with an exhibit and public discussion of Meyer’s work.

The project will take into account the history of Los Angeles and how various social, political, geographic and economic factors led to the formation of a culture that revolves around the automobile and has typically discouraged alternatives to that model.

“The goal of the project is to promote awareness of public transportation alternatives in Los Angeles,” said Meyer. ”I think it will also reveal how individual’s relationship to the city changes when not experienced through the windows of an automobile.”
