Putting a human face on Santa Barbara Channel issues

This project will produce a half-hour video documentary about the Santa Barbara Channel featuring stories from a variety of individuals and groups with competing interests in the Channel, including recreational users, environmentalists, commercial fishermen and those representing the commercial interests of mining and shipping companies.

“This project is important because it will put a human face on the issues surrounding the use of the Channel,” said Project Director Janet Bridgers, who co-founded earth Alert, the nonprofit environmental media organization sponsoring the project. Bridgers will produce, direct, write and edit the documentary.

“Our goal for ‘Sharing the Santa Barbara Channel’ is to show different cultural and philosophical perspectives in a way that fosters more respectful dialogues between and among the various stakeholders,” Bridgers said.
