Telling the story of San Diego’s Laotian refugees

Laotians first came to San Diego as refugees in the mid-1970s. Today 25,000 Laotians reside in San Diego, but little is known about their history or of the challenges they face in adapting to American life

TeAda Productions will help right that situation by gathering on video the stories of Lao refugees and their children and then re-enacting selected stores in a performance piece during the Lao New Year celebration in April 2009.

“This project is important because it will bring voice to a growing segment of the Asian American Diaspora not yet included in our history,” said Project Director Ova Saopeng.
