Telling the story of the evolution of Imperial Valley music groups

This project will tell the story of Imperial Valley music groups and how the Chicano movement affected them.

Stories will be collected from musicians, most from the 1950s and '60s, their families and friends, and community leaders. The idea of the project is to gain an understanding of the links between popular music and social and political change.

A project exhibit will be held in fall 2008 at the Institute for Socio-Economic Justice on Main Street in Brawley. The exhibit will include a video of the interviews, old footage of performers and a photo collection. The exhibit will also be made available in DVD format and on the Institute’s website.
