Creating a theater work based on the stories of LGBT seniors

The Outlook Theater Project, a newly formed ensemble company that creates theater pieces on gay themes, will develop an original theater work based on the stories of LGBT seniors in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The stories will gathered from gay seniors connected to organizations serving the gay community, including New Leaf Outreach to Elders. Members of the Outlook Theater Project and interested members of the gay community will be trained as interviewers.

The seniors will provide feedback on the play as it develops and will be cast alongside professional actors in performances of the work.

The project will conclude with the presentation of the work at two Bay Area venues. The piece will also travel to senior centers, senior living facilities and other community venues.

“Seniors are often disregarded in American society, and to be aging and gay compounds the problem,” said Project Director Rebecca Schultz, who is co-director of the Outlook Theater Project. “This project will celebrate GLBT seniors and raise awareness of the issues they face.”
