Learning to write personal stories about the land and its meaning

This project will engage a diverse group of Lassen County residents in writing classes designed to capture -- in poetry, short story and narrative nonfiction -- local stories of the land. The writing will be collected in an anthology and participants will read their stories at a public event hosted by the Lassen Community College..

Lassen County is a diverse isolated rural area inhabited by ranchers, miners, four Native American tribes and two prisons. “Things are changing, and many feel that history about the past is slipping away,” said Project Director Candace Toft. “This project will help preserve the past for future generations and enable different segments of the population to learn more about each other.
