Seniors and at-risk youths to create videos about each other’s life experiences

This project will bring together a group of residents at a senior artists colony in Burbank with at-risk students at an alternative school nearby to create videos about each other’s lives and experiences.

“This project will give both the elders and youths an opportunity to explore the stereotypes they hold of each other and increase intergenerational understanding,” said Project Director Maureen Kellen-Taylor.

Participants will attend weekly class sessions, where they will learn the elements of storytelling and skills in interviewing and filmmaking. An experienced filmmaker will help senior-student teams interview and video each other as they recount their experiences.

The videos will be showcased at two events in Burbank at the conclusion of the project. “We anticipate that the finished videos will contain useful and thought-provoking material that will attract a wide and diverse audience,” Kellen-Taylor said.
